Welcome to the Saint Louis dojo of the JAPAN KARATE-DO RYOBU-KAI (JKR), an international martial arts organization under the leadership of Sensei Yasuhiro (Takehiro) Konishi, 10th Dan. JKR branches are located throughout the world, and are under the guidance of Kiyoshi Yamazaki, 8th Dan, International Director and Chief Instructor.
The JKR's lineage reaches back to the 16th century traditions of Takenouchi Ryu Jujitsu, and instruction is in a form of traditional karate called Shindo Jinen Ryu, which was founded by Sensei Konishi's father, Yasuhiro Konishi. One of the original Japanese styles of karate, it bears the influences of the elder Sensei Konishi's training partners, contemporaries and instructors, most notably Gichin Funakoshi, Chojun Miyagi, Kenwa Mabuni, and Choki Motobu, as well as the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba.
The foundation of training within Japan Karate-Do Ryou-Kai is rooted in traditional methods, stressing discipline, consistent attendance, etiquette, and hard work. Modern aspects of instuction incorporate elements of karate, aikido, jujitsu, and kendo in the formal curriculum, with an added emphasis on philosophy and education.
